CC#2: "Orange" You a Leader?

Assignment:  Identify the author's purpose and provide evidence and commentary on a current event of your choice.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and PACER, who became involved in this nationwide concern in 2006, remains an active supporter of this national concern. On their website, they report, "More that 160,000 students stay home from school each day from fear of being bullied."  Each day.  Every day. 160,000.

How can we, how can you make a change?

PACER's theme this year:  The End of Bullying Begins with Me.  In an endeavor to further spread the message, in an endeavor to begin the end, PACER's website contains many ideas to engage communities in making a difference, including signing an online petition, free resources, featured videos, sites for teens, and much more!  This site, people friendly, promotes such a positive message.

Please meet Spookley, a square pumpkin who does not have enough curves. Free video streaming of the book here!  Now, who would want to bully such cute pumpkin?  Every day, though, we all have pumpkins in our lives who are treated so unfairly by acquaintances who appear to be so well-"rounded," who get away with their hurtful comments and actions against others.

One way that students and teachers can take a visual stand against bullying occurs on Wednesday, October 10.  Wear Orange Day. This year, the Batesville High School Beta Club has adopted PACER's theme as its platform and will sponsor this very event on the BHS campus.  Please make plans to participate and create a visual change.  Then be the end of bullying by silencing the voices that hurt and by increasing the support for those hurt by the bullies in our midst.

Remember, The End of Bullying Begins with Me. Now, begin planning your outfit for Orange Day!
