A hot topic this week lives embedded within this article "Barnes & Noble Torched over 'Classics in Blackface' Book Cover Reissues." Created with the intent of promoting Black History Month, this mega book seller chose classics without African-American covers and created one featuring this race. Now, due to feedback, the bookstore owners and creators of this feature have chosen to pull the new book covers.
According to writer of the above article which was published on the Fox News website, "Barnes & Noble is withdrawing a planned line of famous literature reissued with multicultural cover images that has been met with widespread criticism on social media."
Author Mikki Kendall tweeted, "They could have Googled, chosen a dozen books by actual Black authors that are classics & sent those out with fresh covers & a big event."
What a shame that this promoter of literacy did not choose to focus on African-American writers and and further promote their publications.
